São Bento Station
São Bento Station is Porto’s central station, which is used for regional trains. This historic station occupies a site where a convent once stood. The first trains came to the station at the end of the 19th century though the station was officially inaugurated only in 1916.
São Bento Station boasts a great collection of tiles that decorate the station’s interiors. About 20,000 tiles cover the most of the atrium and reproduce historical scenes. The most interesting panels depict King João I and Queen Philippa of Lancaster, Prince Henry the Navigator, and the Battle of Arcos de Valdevez.
